The 1967 Shelby Cobra is considered to be one of the greatest cars ever made… and in 2015, it’s one of the most valuable. They are considered to be one of the few blue chip American cars; in 2008, a 1967 Shelby Cobra Roadster auctioned for $652,500… more than most Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s.
Initially introduced in 1962, the Shelby Cobra was originally produced from 1962 until 1967 by Carroll Shelby himself. The body was originally mad of aluminum and mated with various lightweight American engines. For the 1962 model year, the Cobra had a 260 horsepower four-speed transmission. By the end of the original 6 year production run, Shelby had opted for higher and higher power engines, culminating is a 510 horsepower 427 cubic inch power plant. It’s fair to say that the woman in the video below had more power than she could handle.
With that in mind, most car enthusiasts knowledgeable and wealthy enough to own one would be very selective about who they let drive their baby. Apparently, the owner of this particular vehicle made a bad decision. It is apparent almost right away that this woman doesn’t has no idea what she is doing. She doesn’t even have the car in reverse when she begins to accelerate, almost damaging the car and injuring onlookers. Then, after she negotiates her way out of the parking lot, which is a miracle in itself, she takes off down the road and begins to lose control. What happened next, and the pictures of the aftermath, made me cry.
I’m glad she is ok, but this person should never be allowed to drive such a car ever again. Unfortunately, the Shelby Cobra wasn’t so lucky. Hopefully, the car was restored.
