The Challenger SRT Hellcat and the Corvette C7 Z06 are two absolute beasts. The Corvette is the lighter of the two cars by far, but the Hellcat has a significant horsepower advantage – especially if the reports are to be believed that the Hellcat is actually hitting numbers on the Dyno in the 750 range… well above the 707 horsepower on the window sticker. Just think about that for a second.
This race isn’t as cut and dry as you may think, however. While both incredibly powerful, the two cars were purpose-built with two different objectives in mind; the Hellcat was meant to be a brute force, straight line, muscle car monster, while the Z06 was built specifically for the track. Now don’t get me wrong, the Hellcat has received high marks for its handling ability, especially considering its weight, but that is not the primary purpose of the car. The Z06, on the other hand, generates tremendous down force, which is fantastic for keeping the car grounded through tight turns at high speeds, but isn’t an asset in a straight-line race.
Regardless, both cars are amazing machines. Who would have imagined we’d see the day when you could get a 650 or 707 horsepower car with a finance plan and warranty? It’s truly a great time to be a car guy.
